Joeboy Early Life and Education

Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, known by his stage name as Joeboy, was born in Lagos State on 21 May 1997 and is currently 25 years old as of the time of making this post in 2022. Joeboy, before his fame, had only sung in social media clips, even though he grew up in a musical family. His father played the keyboard in church, his brother played guitar and his sister was a member of the choir group, he was the only one who didn’t play an instrument or take part in musical activities. After completing his primary and secondary schools, he proceeded to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) where he bagged a degree in human resources.

Joeboy was discovered by Mr. Eazi of emPawa Africa in 2017. It happened after Joeboy posted a video of himself covering Ed Sheeran’s song “Shape Of You” on Instagram. The cover got Mr. Eazi’s attention and send Joeboy a message. In 2018, Mr. Eazi created a talent incubation initiative for upcoming African artists, called emPawa Africa a full-service company offering marketing, distribution, publishing, label, and management services. He also launched #emPawa100, a funding and mentorship program, and encouraged Joeboy to sign up. Joeboy became one of 10,000 applicants from 14 different countries. He was among the early 100 participants to earn a share of $300,000 grants. He used his share of $3000 to shoot the virtual for his single “Faaji” where he collaborated with Mr. Eazi. On 1 March 2019, he dropped another track “Baby” which later became a hit in 2019 and surpassed 20 million streams across Spotify and YouTube. The Music Video has surpassed 31 million views on YouTube. In November 2019, emPawa Africa released Joeboy’s debut studio album “Love And Light”, the album was supported by the lead singles ” Baby”, “Beginning” and the Mayorkun -assisted track “Don’t Call Me Back”. On April 10, 2020, he released another single ” Call” from his 2021 album “Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic.

On 3rd December 2021, he got featured by Nigerian songstress, Simi on a track called “So Bad”. The track has been embraced by many and later became a hit in 2022. In March 2022, he dropped an impressive track tagged ‘Cubana” In July 2022, he released his second solo of the year track Spiritual Gbedu which was produced by Tytanium with an exclusive performance on ‘A Colors Show’
